| The Charles County Mobile Intensive Care Unit (CCMICU) is encouraging fire and EMS personnel, agency leaders, and elected officials to participate in an upcoming training session focused on improving emergency vehicle response safety. The program, titled “Beyond the Sirens: Rethinking Emergency Response,” will examine the risks associated with emergency vehicle operations and discuss strategies to reduce preventable collisions involving first responders. Despite extensive training and strict policies, crashes involving emergency vehicles continue to occur nationwide. This session will review best practices, examine current research on the use of lights and sirens, and explore ways departments can improve safety while still providing rapid response to the community. The training will be hosted by the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and presented in partnership with the Emergency Services Insurance Program (ESIP) by McNeil & Company. Sign-in begins at 6:30 p.m., with the program running from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026. The event will take place in the 28100 block of Hills Club Road in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Dinner will be provided for attendees, and pre-registration is requested. “This program focuses on one of the most important aspects of emergency services - ensuring our responders arrive safely,” a CCMICU representative said. “By examining national data and sharing best practices, we can work together to reduce preventable crashes and better protect our crews and the communities we serve.” The session will provide practical insights and real-world solutions that departments can implement immediately to strengthen safety during emergency responses. For more information or to register, interested participants can contact the Risk Management Department at (607) 246-7532 or scan the registration QR code on the event flyer. Training and education remain critical to maintaining safe operations in the fire and EMS service. Departments and personnel are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities like this to continually improve response practices and protect both responders and the public. Community members can support their local emergency services by staying informed and following their department’s social media pages for updates on training, safety initiatives, and public education events. |
